Student support documents

You can contact the Accessibility and Disability Resource Centre (ADRC) directly for assessment and preparation of a Student Support Document (SSD) which they will give to all the necessary people in your college and the department.  The ADRC will give the department and your college your SSD before the start of the academic year. They are only shared after you have given permission and they are treated in confidence.  If after the start of the academic year you realise you need to be assessed for a Specific Learning Difficulty, please contact the ADRC who will provide advice and make any necessary arrangements, after which they will give updates to the college and the department.

Your Tutor, Director of Studies or postgrad contact will use the SSDs to provide support mechanisms and inform supervisors and other key members of college staff as recommended in the SSD.

Undergraduates

  • Your tutor and Director of Studies will use your SSD to provide support mechanisms and inform supervisors and other key members of college staff as recommended in your SSD.
  • The department will inform the relevant laboratory technicians, lecturers and any other individual listed in the SSD.
  • The Teaching Office will communicate with you and your DoS at the earliest opportunity and identify any specific actions or adjustments that we need to put in place locally to help you have a productive and enjoyable learning experience in the subject and to ensure we have the correct information.
  • If you encounter any problems related to the departmental provisions outlined in your SSD (e.g. working in the laboratory or accessing course material/lecture handouts) the best contact is the Undergraduate Teaching Office, who will direct your concern or question to the appropriate person in the department for advice and action.

 Postgraduates

  • Your SSD will be shared with your PI and the members of the department who can arrange any recommended adjustments and support your research and the time you spend in the department.
  • If you encounterany problems related to the departmental provisions outlined in your SSD (e.g. working in the laboratory or accessing equipment) the best contact is the Postgraduate Education Team who will direct your concerns to the appropriate person in the department for advice and action.
